Hello Puffins,


We have had such a exciting week moving into our new classroom.  We love it!


Yesterday we had our Teddy Bear Show.  We sang lots of songs and saw some incredible art work.  We even watched some of our teddy bears turn into magic bears.   We also had our Teddy Bear's Picnic in the afternoon.  We hope you enjoyed hearing us sing.  Thank you for coming along, we had lots of fun eating our picnic outside on our lovely playground. 


Today we had a visit from some farm animals.  We learnt lots of things about the different animals and we even got to stroke some of them.  See the photos below.

Teddy Bear Show


Well what an exciting few days we have had! Yesterday we released our butterflies. It was such a magical experience.  We have watched the process of caterpillars turning into butterflies.  We even gave our butterflies names and watched them fly off into the world.


Tomorrow  is our May Fair, Friday 18th May.  We can't wait to see the Year 2 Maypole Dancers perform.  We will also be selling our Glitter Peg Butterflies that we have been making.  We are looking forward to seeing what the other classes have made in our assembly tomorrow.


Next week is our 'How Wow' Topic.  We are looking forward to doing some exciting science experiments.  We also have our trip to Church Farm on Thursday, we can't wait!

Hello Puffins,


What a busy couple of weeks we have had!


Well done to all of the children who brought in gardens, they were amazing and it was very tricky to choose a winner.


We have enjoyed looking after our caterpillars over the last couple of weeks and are hoping they have transformed into butterflies when we return to school on Monday!


Next week we will be continuing to look at our topic of Bears. The Puffins have really enjoyed learning lots of bear facts and writing about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Hello Puffins,


This week we have been learning about the lifecycle of a frog.  We have been looking at frog's spawn from our school pond and learning about the process of metamorphosis.  We have learnt lots of facts about frogs and we have written some on lily pads for a class display.  Next week we will be learning about the parts of a plant and how plants grow. 


Don't forget to bring in your miniature gardens on Monday 30th April for the competition on Wednesday 2nd May.  All children will get a certificate and a sticker but the winner in each class will get a special prize.

Looking at Frog's Spawn

This week we have been looking at how humans grow and change as they get older.  Thank you for sending in baby photographs of the children, we have had lots of fun looking at them all.


Our scientist of the month is Isaac Newton, so we have been learning about the force of gravity and what would happen if there was no gravity.


The children have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, we have been sorting them into groups and talking about their properties.  Please see the photos below.

Welcome back Puffins!


It was lovely to hear about all the lovely things you did in the holidays.  

Our new topic is all about Growing and Changing.  We have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and have enjoyed doing lots of activities about the story 'The Hungry Caterpillar.'


We also had a special activity called ICE CATS today, all about being safe in an emergency.   The children really enjoyed it and learnt lots of important things about what to do in an emergency. See below the pictures from our ICE CATS session (InCase of Emergency, Children, Adults, Teachers, Staff).


Next week we will be learning about how humans grow and change as they get older.  Please send in a baby photograph of your child with their name on the back, we wll be looking at these net week.

Well done Puffins!


Today was our Breakfast Assembly.  The children were absolutely fantastic! They sang beautifully, spoke clearly and were so energetic with their dancing, I am sure you were very proud of them all.  Thank you to everyone who came to watch and have breakfast with us.  It really was such a success.  


Remember we finish tomorrow, Friday 23rd March at 1.30pm.

Hello Puffins,


This week we have been busy doing some art work inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian.  Each child completed their own painting and then we collaborated all of the pictures together to make a whole class piece of art.  Please see photos below.


On Thursday we had a non-curriculum day all about bags.   We looked a different types of bags and materials used to make bags.  We also designed and made our own super hero  puppets using paper bags.  


On Monday 19th March we will be visiting St Anne's Church.  We also have our Breakfast Assembly next week on Thursday 22nd March at 8.50am.  We look forward to seeing many of you there.


Remember we finish on Friday 23rd March at 1.30pm.

Hello Puffins, 


What a wonderful week we have had!

Our topic next week is 'People who help us'. We will be looking at a variety of job roles and how they help us. 


A quick reminder that Thursday 1st February is World Book Day. Your child can come to school dressed up if they wish, if not, then there will be costumes for the children to choose from when in school. 




Happy Half Term Puffins!  I hope you all have a lovey week off.  We will be returning to school on Monday 19th February.


We have had an exciting week in school, it was our Wider World Week.  Each class learnt about a different country.  We learnt about Italy, it was lovely to see how much effort the children had put into their homework.  Mrs Costello came in and taught us an Italian nursery rhyme.  The Puffins enjoyed singing it in our Wider World Assembly.


We have also been learning about healthy lifestyles and we had a fun morning tasting different types of fruit.



This week we have been learning about families.  I was absolutely amazed at how much hard work had gone into the family albums/scrapbooks, they were just fabulous.  The children have loved showing them to the rest of the class! Also a big well done to all the children and adults who took part in the first part of the reception multi-skills event on Monday.  It was great to see so many adults joining in and having fun with the children.  The next one is on Monday 5th February for the other half of the class. 


Next week is our Wider World Week, the Puffins will be learning about Italy.  The children's homework this week is to research and find some information about Italy.  We have lots of crafts, songs and writing activities that we will be doing in class next week. 



Playing literacy games and symmetry activties

This week we have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs.  We have done some writing, acted out the story, made our own houses and sang some songs.  It has been a very busy week!  We have also been learning about symmetry, we have found lines of symmetry in shapes and made our own shape pictures using a range of resources.


Next week we will be looking at toys, we have asked children to bring in their own toy on Monday 22nd January.  We will also be looking at toys from long ago.

Well done to all the children who performed in our Christmas Show on Monday.  They have all worked so hard learning their lines, actions, songs, dances and movement around the stage.  It was a wonderful performance and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.  Thank you to everyone who came to watch and support the children. 


We finish tomorrow, Thursday 21st December at 1.30pm and return to school on Monday 8th January.

Ho Ho Ho, Puffins.  We have all been wearing our Christmas jumpers today in school.  We have been talking about advent and starting to get excited for Christmas.  We are very excited about selling our Christmas Tree Table Toppers at the Christmas Fair tonight. 


This week we have bee learning about the famous author, Julia Donaldson.  We have read The Gruffalo, Tabby McCat, Stick Man and The Gruffalo's Child.  We all had a go at writing a sentence about one of the stories in our writing lesson.  In our maths lessons we have been looking at money.  We have been learning the value of the different coins.


Next week we have the reindeer visit to look forward to and there might even be a visit from Santa.  On Monday we have a themed day looking at food and drink, in Puffins we will be making banana and strawberry milkshakes.  Remember if your child has any allergies please let us know either on the door or indicate this on the reply slip.

Hello Puffins,


We have had lots of fun this week expermenting with object that float and sink.  We have also been making junk model boats.  We had a lovely morning on Monday for 'Anyone But The Parents Morning'.  Please see the photos below.  It was great to see so many adults getting involved with all the activities and having fun with the children.  Thank you to everyone who came.


Next week we have the school Christmas Fair, on Friday 1st December.  We have been making christmas tree ornaments to sell.  We wll also be learning about authors next week.  Puffins class will be reading some stories by the famous author Julia Donaldson.

Hello everyone,


This week we have been ordering and comparing length.  We have ordered  range of objects from longest to shortest.  We also did a bit of work on capacity too, looking at 'full', 'half full' and 'empty'.  


Next week is anti-bullying week and the children have been asked to bring in £1 and they can wear odd socks on Monday.  We will also be doing some junk modelling in class next week, please send in any cereal boxes, kitchen tubes or cartons into school.


Our Christmas show will also be coming up soon.  Some of the children have been sent home some words to practise.  We would be really grateful if you could go over these lines with the children at home.


Don't forget you need to bring your reading book in every day.  Also library day is on Thursdays, so make sure your book is brought back in so you can get a new one.

Hello Puffins,


It has been a great first week back at school.  It has been lovely to hear about all the lovely things you did during half term.  The children have done so well learning my new married name, Mrs Ridehalgh.  Thank you for your kind words and well wishes.  


This week we started our underwater topic.  We have been learning about diferent sea creatures.  We have also enjoyed doing some writing activities about The Rainbow Fish Story.


Next week we will be doing some work on length in our maths lessons.  Your homework this week is based on this too.

Hello Puffins,


We have come to the end of our first half term in Puffins.  It has been lovely getting to know you all and to see you all settle in so well.  We break up from school tomorrow, Friday 20th October at 3.15pm and the we return to school on Monday 30th October.


Tomorrow is our Charities Assembly at 2.30pm.  We have a representative from The Ronald McDonald House coming in to talk to the children about he fantastic work that they do.  We will be presenting our cheque to the charity in the Charities Assembly.  Thank you so much for your kind donations.  


Reading books and PE bags will be sent home tomorrow. Please ensure PE bags are returned on the first day back.  We will be starting our 'Under Water' topic when we return after half term.

Hello Puffins,


We have had another busy week in school.  Yesterday we did our sponsored bounce in our school hall, you can see the photos below.  We had lots of fun! Our charities assembly will be held on Friday 20th October at 2.30pm.  Thank you for all the sponsor money that has been collected and sent in already.  Today the children paid £1 to bring a toy in for the day.  This money will go to our chosen charity, The Ronald McDonald House.


Next week we will be startng our topic on bugs. we will be learning lots of interesting facts and also doing some art work.  Our homework this week is an Autumn Hunt, I hope you have lots of fun finding the diffeent items.  We finish for half term next week, on Friday 20th October at 3.15pm.

Hello Puffins,


This week we have been doing repeated patterns, using cubes, beads and shapes.  We have also been working on some letter formaton.  Today we had a wonderful time meeting a variety of animals, please see the photos below.


Next week we will be counting sets of objects and working on number recognition.  We will also be learning a bit more about our chosen charity, The Ronald McDonald House.  We will be doing sponsored speed bounce to raise money for the charity and we are hoping to have  a visit from one of the representatives of the charity, to tell us all about the wonderful work that they do.  Our charities assembly will be held on Friday 20th October.

Well it has been a busy week in Puffins.  We have been learning all about Autumn. We have done some fabulous art work and sang some Autumn songs.  We have also been working on our letter formaton and also our fine motor skills (See some pictures below).


Our library day is a Thursday, so please remember to return your library book on or before Thursday next week.


Children will be taking homework home this weekend.   We would prefer it to be comlpeted in pencil and brought into school by Tuesday next week.

Working on our fine motor skills

This week we will be looking at signs of Autumn.  This morning we talked about the different seasons and looked at some of the lovely Autumn leaves that lots of the children had collected over the weekend.  We will also be doing some leaf printing using different colour paints.  Library will be starting on Thursday, so the children will be bringing their own library book home.  Please make sure that all books are returned by next Thursday.  Also reding books will be given out on Friday this week.

We have had a fabulous first full week in school.  I have been so pleased to see all the children coming into shool so sensibly.  The children have really been enjoying our school dinners and playing on the big playground.   The children have also had the chance to play with their buddies in Year 2. We have had lots of fun learning about our class bird and doing some lovely puffin paintings.  


Next week we will be going on a tour of the school and meeting all of the staff.  We will also be getting changed for PE, so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.  We have PE on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Hello Puffins,


We have had a wonderful first day in school today.  It was lovely to see so many smiling faces coming into school today.  


Next week we have our first full week in Puffins.  Remember we will be seeing the children out at end of the day at 3.15pm.  Your child can bring in a piece of fruit each day as an extra snack, if they wish.  Please check your child's bookbag for any letters that are sent home and lease remember to bring PE Kits in.


I look forward to seing you all next week for lots of exciting activities. We wll be learning all about our class bird.
